If you have ever looked at a sales tax return, you’ll notice that
it looks simple enough. In the
State of
Florida
, the State depends on you to collect tax for them and to remit it to the
State, and will even subsidize the reporting process by giving you a
collection allowance in certain situations.
As a result, you are acting as an agent of the State of
Florida
and have certain responsibilities surrounding the calculations, collection
and remittance of sales tax. Generally,
sales tax returns are due each month.
In some cases, sales tax is not required, but the related
information should still be reported.
The State of
Florida
is very serious about this process and has the power and authority to shut
down businesses that can not or will not handle this properly.
There are numerous rules and regulations concerning this.
In some cases, the sales of services (such as CPA services) are not
subject to sales tax. In other
cases, the sales tax collected must be computed based on where the
purchaser resides (such as car sales).
The key here is to accurately, timely and repeatedly submit the
appropriate information along with any payment that is due, and we can
help make sure this is done.
